Problem
The brake disc manufacturer operated in an environment with significant daily temperature fluctuations, with daytime temperatures reaching 32°C (~90°F) and nighttime temperatures dropping to 3–5°C (37.4-41°F). These swings created condensation and moisture buildup on metal surfaces.
Additionally, the use of well water in production further accelerated corrosion on finished brake discs. As a result, many parts developed rust before shipment, leading to production delays, increased scrap, and material waste.
Although, the company attempted to use traditional rust removers, but these chemicals were highly aggressive and required uncomfortable protective equipment, creating safety concerns and slowing operations.
Solution
To improve Brake Disc Rust Removal with ZERUST® AxxaClean™ 2048 Immersion, a water-based immersion cleaning process was introduced. Through this process, brake discs were treated using AxxaClean™ 2048, which effectively dissolved corrosion while offering a safer and more user-friendly alternative to conventional acidic or abrasive methods.
In turn, the solution helped eliminate the need for harsh chemicals and reduced reliance on extensive personal protective equipment. Furthermore, with a pH of approximately 2.5, similar to a soda drink, AxxaClean™ 2048 minimizes disposal challenges, making it an ideal safe rust remover for industrial brake disc applications.
