What?

Implemented ZERUST® AxxaClean™ 3048 a rapid-acting industrial rust remover designed to eliminate heavy corrosion and tarnish, even in the most hard-to-reach cracks and crevices. This was followed with preventative treatment of Axxanol™ Spray-G, a sprayable rust preventative grease that provides the protection of a grease in the convenience of a sprayable form and Axxanol™ Z-Maxx an additonal lubrication grease for high-temperature and additional water resistency. Pipelines were further safeguarded using ZERUST® Inhibitor Fusion (ZIF) Tape to prevent premature deterioration in high-salinity conditions.

Problem

Offshore refining operations faced severe corrosion challenges due to the aggressive marine environment. Continuous exposure to humidity, salinity, and temperature fluctuations accelerated rust formation and metal degradation across pipelines, structural components, and essential equipment.

This corrosion compromised reliability, increased repair frequency, and threatened the operational lifespan of critical assets on the company’s refining vessels.

Marine Corrosion Control Solution

To improve Offshore Refining Corrosion Protection with ZERUST® Marine Corrosion Control Solutions, a targeted system of cleaning, coating, and preventive maintenance products was introduced.

Maintenance teams first removed existing corrosion using AxxaClean™ 3048 followed by a protective coating with Axxanol™ Spray-G, preventing corrosion on multiple metal types for up to one year^‡ outdoors and up to two years^‡and Axxanol™ Z-Maxx, a anti-corrosion grease designed for water resistance, to create durable moisture and corrosion barriers on exposed metal surfaces. Pipelines were further safeguarded using ZERUST® Inhibitor Fusion (ZIF) Tape to prevent premature deterioration in high-salinity conditions.

To ensure proper use and consistent protection, training sessions were conducted for maintenance personnel. Each technician was equipped with a portable corrosion protection kit, enabling immediate treatment of exposed or affected areas during routine shifts.
