1970
In 1970, Northern Technologies International Corporation (NTIC) was founded in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. The company began with its primary business focused on oil analyzer instruments.
1973
By 1973, NTIC entered the corrosion prevention industry by introducing the first ZERUST® Vapor Capsule VCI diffuser, marking its entry into the corrosion protection market.
1979
In 1979, ZERUST® revolutionized corrosion protection by inventing and launching the world’s first Vapor Corrosion-Inhibiting (VCI) film product. This innovation changed how metals were packaged and shipped worldwide. During the same year, the company expanded its product line with ZERUST® Axxanol™ rust preventative oils whilst Filing the patent 4290912A, in early 1980.
1981
In 1981, ZERUST® further advanced its packaging technology by combining VCI poly film with kraft paper to create poly kraft VCI paper, offering manufacturers more versatile rust prevention packaging options.
1991–2001
Between 1991 and 2001, NTIC formed global expansion partnerships in Europe, India, and consumer markets. This period significantly widened the adoption of VCI technology across the automotive, industrial, and consumer goods supply chains.
2010
In 2010, the company introduced ZERUST® ActivPak, the most powerful vapor corrosion inhibitor diffuser available at the time, designed to protect enclosed spaces and sensitive equipment from rust and corrosion.
2015
By 2015, NTIC established NTIC Shanghai Co. to expand its reach and provide comprehensive corrosion protection solutions to the fast-growing Asian market.
2021
In 2021, ZERUST® launched a new lines of industrial cleaners and degreasers. These products were engineered to work synergistically with VCI packaging films, rust preventative coatings, and oils, ensuring maximum corrosion protection by cleaning metal surfaces prior to packaging or storage.
