Zerust® ICT®510G4-C Ferrous Film is the latest generation of corrosion inhibiting plastic packaging made with a new active formulation that provides more robust rust protection in industrial environments. It offers increased protection when process variability, such as cleaning and hold times before packaging, may lead to variation in yield of rust free parts. The wider margin of protection is based on an evolution in Zerust® technology to meet the toughest industrial, military and international requirements. The film exceeds the requirements of the Grade 4 NACE Test Method 2008-0208, and also VCI test requirements in MIL-PRF-22019. A version of this film is listed on qualified product list QPL-22019. The G4 corrosion inhibiting formulation is non-toxic, odorless and does not contain heavy metals.
The Problem
Ferrous metals, such as iron and steel, naturally rust in the presence of moisture and air. The speed of this corrosion process may accelerate if the surface of the metal has variable traces of residual corrosive contaminants when cleaning-washing processes vary, due to wash bath age or time of exposure to atmospheric humidity and other contaminants. The result may be a subtle variation in yield of rust-free parts when shipments and stored parts are opened, inspected and used.
The Solution
Protected with Ordinary VCI
Protected with ICT510G4-C
Zerust® ICT®510G4-C shows improvement in rust-free process yields and superior rust protection in lab tests. Testing included exposure of ferrous parts to standard warm humidity chamber environments that meet the ASTM D1735 standard. In general, the effectiveness of Zerust corrosion protection is still subject to the amount and types of corrosive contaminants left on the metal surfaces. We strongly recommend that users ensure that their metal parts are clean and free of corrosive contaminants prio to using Zerust products.
